The Volunteer Center

The Volunteer Center is a volunteering institution recruited by the operating team of YouthLA, responsible for organizing, coordinating and managing volunteering activities in a comprehensive way. The Volunteer Center is in the responsibility of the Coordinator, and has such four teams as translation team, writing team, activity planning team and daily management team under its control.

Responsibilities

Translation Team: mainly responsible for collecting and releasing the translations in the pre-stage, recognizing and communicating with the translators in the middle stage and assessing and releasing the translations in the post-stage.

Writing Team: mainly responsible for choosing the subject for articles, organizing and arranging the articles interviewed and written by volunteers, and reviewing and releasing the finished articles.

Activity Planning Team: mainly responsible for planning the academic forum, meeting, subject planning activities and other volunteer activities developed by YouthLA.

Daily Management Team: mainly responsible for assessing and quantifying the workload of volunteers, including establishing and updating personal information archives of volunteers, recording their workloads and recording their star level assessment result.

Production

The operating team of YouthLA accepts the signing up by volunteers for the Volunteer Center permanently. To become a member of the Volunteer Center, the volunteer will apply for the position voluntarily, be assessed, discussed and voted by all current members of the operating team; anyone winning more than 7 votes may acquire a position in the Volunteer Center. Applicants are requested to send your CV and Cover Letter to daily-manage@youthla.org.

Incentive and commendation of volunteers

Volunteer Center will convert various volunteer services into score and carry out star level authentication and award issuing system according to the accumulative scores.
a. Those with accumulative scores of 10 will be rated to be “One-star Volunteer”;
b. Those with accumulative scores of 30 will be rated to be “Two-star Volunteer”;
c. Those with accumulative scores of 50 will be rated to be “Three-star Volunteer”;
d. Those with accumulative scores of 70 will be rated to be “Four-star Volunteer”;
e. Those with accumulative scores of 90 will be rated to be “Five-star Volunteer”;
f. Those with accumulative scores of 120 will be rated to be “First Class Medal Volunteer”;
g. Those with accumulative scores of 150 will be rated to be “special medal volunteer”;
h. Those with accumulative scores of 200 will be rated to be “Excellent Medal Volunteer”;

Volunteers who accumulate corresponding scores will apply for adding star by themselves and daily management team will determine their star grade after checking the application information and then keep in the archives. YouthLA will release the star grade information regularly upon consent of the volunteer and congratulate the volunteer with additional star.

Appendix “Score Conversion Measures for Volunteers of YouthLA (Trial)”

Note: The Conversion Measures will be tried since the date of release, and adjusted in future in case of any improper part, but won’t affect the star grade assessment on volunteers.

1. Translation

Translating articles: translating English or other languages into Chinese will be given 5 scores per 1000 Chinese characters. Translating Chinese into English or other languages will be given 7 scores per 1000 Chinese characters. Each article assessed to be good quality by translation team will be additionally given 1 score.
Proofing: each article will be given 3 scores and each article assessed to be good quality by translation team will be additionally given 1 score.

2. Writing

Writing articles: each article will be given 5 scores and each article assessed to be good quality by writing team will be additionally given 1 score.
Proofing articles: each article will be given 1 score and each article assessed to be longer and good quality by writing team will be additionally given 1 score. (in principle, articles more than 8000 characters will be deemed to be longer.)

3. Activity

Those who join in volunteer service activity, such as community serving activity will be given 3 scores per hour.

Those who join in academic forum or meeting of YouthLA will be given 10 scores each time and those delivering speech at the meeting will be additionally given 5 scores.
Volunteers with good performance will be given additional scores according to actual situation upon application by other volunteers, or members of volunteer center, or members of operating team or honorable volunteers and discussion by members of volunteer center.

4. Daily management

Members of management team of volunteers will be given additional scores according to their workload upon discussion by management team and operating team and notice to volunteers.

Volunteers who join in daily management work will be given additional scores according to actual situation upon application by themselves or members of relevant working team of management team, and review by relevant working team.
